Visit from the Icelandic Association of County Commissioners
9th December 2022
On Thursday, December 8th, the Supreme Court received a visit from the Icelandic District Commissioners Association. The President and the Director of the Court welcomed the District Commissioners and introduced them to the operations and answered questions.
On this occasion, Arndís Soffía Sigurðardóttir, the chair of the Supreme Court Association, presented her gift on 16 February 2020, in celebration of the centenary of the court. It is a bound copy of the Iron Page in a version from 1847. It contains the well-known comment that by law a country should be built, but with a lawless gap. It is assumed that the idea of the rule of law was known in the 13th century in Iceland and elsewhere in the Nordic countries, where the same comment is reflected in other books of law from this time. The book has been located in the office of the president of the court.
