Trust in the Supreme Court grows among lawyers and prosecutors

29th June 2022

According to Gallup, about 89% of lawyers and accusers had a high level of trust in the Supreme Court, according to a survey on the services of the courts, which was carried out at the request of the judicial administration.

This is an increase of five percentage points from 2019 when a similar survey was conducted. The question was also asked about the assessment of the court’s time of action, where 82% of lawyers and plaintiffs considered the time of action to be reasonable compared to 69% of those questioned in 2019. About 89% of lawyers and plaintiffs agreed with the claim that the court’s judgments were sufficiently justified compared to 81% in 2019. About 82% of lawyers and plaintiffs were satisfied with the service of the Supreme Court in 2022 compared to 85% in 2019, which is a decrease of about three percentage points from the previous survey.

In responses to open questions, suggestions were made that it was important to consider electronic data transmission and consider a more flexible opening time for the Supreme Court with some form of self-service by lawyers when data transmission is made. All these suggestions that were made in the survey will be considered further. Some participants in the survey commented that the arguments for refusing permission to appeal were insufficient. In this regard, it should be pointed out that such a resolution only applies to certain legally required conditions for appeal and cannot imply that further consideration of the case will be taken so that the defendant will be solved in some way. In this case, about one-quarter of such requests are accepted, but this proportion is much lower in other Nordic countries, or 10-15%.

About the survey: The Gallup online survey was conducted between April 26 and May 12 2022 and the sample consisted of 1108 lawyers and plaintiffs. The participation rate was 35%. As mentioned above, a similar survey was conducted in 2019.

The Supreme Court would like to thank those who took the time to answer the questions and offer suggestions for improvements.
