The Nordic Language Competition

The annual Nordic law students’ debate took place in Stockholm from 6 to 9 June. Participants from Iceland participated in the competition from the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland.
The annual Nordic law students’ debate took place in Stockholm from June 6 to 9. The competition was attended by a team from the University of Iceland’s Law Department, consisting of Gísli Laufeyjarson Höskuldsson, Jón Sigfús Jónsson, Líney Helgadóttir, Sigurlaug Eir Þórsdóttir and Ylfa Helgadóttir. The team’s principal instructor was Kristín Benediktsdóttir, dean of the University of Iceland’s Law Department. The team’s results were very good and it ended in the semi-finals. This is the most successful team from Iceland since 2010.
All the judges from the Nordic countries at the European Court of Human Rights were judges in the debate, including the Icelandic judge Oddný Mjöll Arnardóttir. The competition was also attended by judges from the highest courts in the Nordic countries, among others the Supreme Court, President Benedikt Bogason and Supreme Court Judge Björg Thorarensen.
