ABOTA - The Association Visits the Supreme Court

On Saturday, May 20th, the Supreme Court received a large group of lawyers and judges from the United States. The group came to Iceland under the auspices of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and stayed for several days.

The court has not before had such a large audience, but the President of the Supreme Court, Benedikt Bogason, spoke about the Icelandic constitution and the legal system. He also discussed the relations between American and Icelandic lawyers in the past decades.

On this occasion, First Lady Eliza Reid spoke about her recently published book, Secrets of the Sprakkar. In the book, Eliza discusses various issues pertaining to the lives and work of women in Iceland. In the book, she talks to women in different areas of society, who have a lot to say and give a colourful picture of modern society, its pros and cons. The guests were very pleased with Eliza Reid’s speech and received her book’s endorsement.

The US Ambassador to Iceland, Carrin F. Patman, also spoke about the relations between the two countries and the main challenges they face.

Finally, President of ABOTA, Steven W. Quattlebaum, spoke. He gave a brief account of the organization’s activities and thanked them for their support.
