SIA receives recognition for innovative activities

18th April 2024

The International Social Security Administration (ISSA) has granted the Icelandic Social Insurance Administration (SIA) an approval for good practice in 2023, which includes the introduction of two innovations in the business; one for the Client Ombudsman and the other on the digital disability certificate on Ísland.is. Huld Magnúsdóttir, the director of the SIA, accepted the approval on behalf of the TR at the ISSA European Parliament in Porto, Portugal, on April 16.

To obtain such recognition, the Social Insurance Administration (SIA) must demonstrate that the implementation of a specific project has contributed to improvements in customer service. These two projects fulfilled the requirements and it is a positive experience for the SIA to receive such recognition from the International Social Security Organization.

The objective of the Client Ombudsman of the SIA is in particular to strengthen the relationship between the customer and SIA as well as to promote improvements in administration and services in the interest of the customer, which is well in line with the above mentioned objectives. The same applies to the digital disability certificates on Ísland.is which facilitate the use of the certificates by right holders as they are now available on smartphones.

“I am very pleased to receive this recognition on behalf of SIA,” Huld said when she received the recognition. “Both these projects were implemented with the goal of improving service to our customers. This has been the case and it has been shown that customers appreciate being able to contact directly with the Client Ombudsman to get further assistance with their cases with us. Likewise, there is great satisfaction with the digital disability certificates on Ísland.is, which makes it easier for right holders to access their certificates.” Huld added that the foundation for these projects was a strong staff that had a strong desire to work on improvements to improve TR’s service.
