Annual meeting of TR

11th May 2023

At the annual meeting of TR today, Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry and the Centre for their good cooperation, as when you are in the process of working for something, it is good to know that more people are also working for greater rights and better conditions for the groups we have been assigned to work for.”

said Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, at the annual meeting of the TR, which was held today in Iðnó.

Institution in constant evolution

In Chief Executive Hulda Magnúsdóttir’s address, it was stated that the customer base of TR has increased by about 26% in the past decade, due mostly to the increase in the population and the ageing population. “It is important that TR adapts to changing circumstances at any given time and that knowledge and technology are kept in line with the best that is happening in service in accordance with the demands of the times.”

A large number of applications in all payment categories are submitted to TR each month, and an average of 4,386 applications are processed each month. The Social Insurance Administration provided services and paid to over 81 thousand individuals in 2022, with about 60% of those receiving old-age pensions, disability and rehabilitation pensions being women.

“We have worked systematically to improve our processes during the year to further improve digital services to an expanding customer base. We have met this development with increased efficiency, diligence and workmanship, improved processes and dynamic IT systems that are constantly evolving in line with the times,” says Huld.

Various organisational changes were made to TR’s operations in 2022 to simplify the flow and disclosure of information, including the establishment of a new work of the customer representative and increased emphasis on personal protection. Emphasis was placed on good cooperation with stakeholder associations and during the year increased intensity was put into disclosure of information to the public, interest groups and associations.

International recognition for gender equality

Equality issues are a significant part of TR’s work and were particularly prominent during the year. “We are proud of our success in equality issues and received both the Balance Scale and the ISSA’s International Equality Prize on behalf of Iceland,” says Huld. “It is equally important to consider that the social security system meets the needs of a diverse and constantly changing society as well as groups with different needs, thus ensuring that equality is fully protected.”
