Iceland Revenue and Customs is responsible for overseeing cargo security nationwide. This includes:

• Monitoring cargo intended for export.

• Issuing and administering rules on cargo security.

• Providing guidance to port authorities on cargo security requirements when preparing risk assessments and security plans.

Cargo Security Requirements

Companies transporting cargo internationally must:

• Apply for approval as a cargo security operator from Iceland Revenue and Customs.

• Appoint a cargo security officer who is responsible for preparing, implementing and reviewing the security plan.

• Use security seals on containers in accordance with customs requirements.
