About Cargo Security
Cargo security refers to preventive measures taken to protect cargo against threats from terrorism or other unlawful acts.
Iceland Revenue and Customs is responsible for overseeing cargo security nationwide. This includes:
Monitoring cargo intended for export.
Issuing and administering rules on cargo security.
Providing guidance to port authorities on cargo security requirements when preparing risk assessments and security plans.
Cargo Security Requirements
Companies transporting cargo internationally must:
Apply for approval as a cargo security operator from Iceland Revenue and Customs.
Appoint a cargo security officer who is responsible for preparing, implementing and reviewing the security plan.
Complete a cargo security declaration containing information about the cargo and its security status. Read more about completing a cargo security declaration.
Use security seals on containers in accordance with customs requirements.
