Be alert to online scams
Scammers often take advantage of busy periods to try to steal money or personal information. It is important to stay cautious, think critically and learn to recognize the signs of online fraud.
These scams are often convincing and may misuse the names and branding of trusted companies or public institutions. Fraud attempts can involve unexpected messages containing false information and suspicious links. In some cases, fake websites are created to trick people into entering card details or signing in with electronic ID.
Common signs of online scams include:
Unusual email addresses or website URLs
Requests for card details, electronic ID login or other financial information
Spelling mistakes or unusual language
Unexpected claims about payments, refunds or debts
Requests to pay or receive money through unfamiliar methods
