Táknmálseyja - Riddarar kærleikans
29th August 2025
The Communication Centre for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired received a grant from the Icelandic Children’s Cultural Fund for the project Táknmálseyja – Knights of Love.

The project, Táknmálseyja – Knights of Love, aims to give the sign language children in Táknmálseyja the opportunity to participate in the national initiative of the President of Iceland, where she has called for the nation to unite in attacking the roots of the problem. The goal is to protect children from violence and strengthen a society where empathy and cooperation are at the forefront.
Our goal with this project is that the sign language children in Táknmálseyja get the opportunity to participate in this effort. That they are not just spectators but participants. That they have a place in Icelandic society, like other children. That they are literate in the culture that prevails here and that they participate in passing it on.
During the autumn semester we will focus on education in this national campaign by translating, into Icelandic Sign Language, the song Riddarar kærleikans (Knights of love), reviewing the text and giving the children general education about this project. We have partnered with the artist Kolbrún Völkudóttir, who will work with the children on the translation of the song and be the artistic director of the project.
The project also focuses on: Making the sign language children and Icelandic Sign Language visible; Giving the sign language children the opportunity to participate in the cultural life of the nation; Giving the sign language children space. The project has a great educational value but also an artistic value.
