Sign language teacher wanted

The Communication Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is advertising for a 50-100% position as a sign language teacher.

Main tasks and responsibilities
At SHH sign language teachers are a part of the sign language department and participate in various collaborative projects, both within that department and across departments. The tasks of sign language teachers are connected to Icelandic Sign Language, ÍTM, primarily sign language teaching and curriculum development, but they also work on other tasks assigned to them within the institution.

Qualifications Good command of Icelandic Sign Language. Knowledge of the deaf cultural community. To be initiative and able to work independently as well as in a team. Good communication skills, customer service attitude, punctuality and organizational skills. A driving test is an advantage. All job interviews will be conducted in ÍTM, and applicants must be willing to undergo a proficiency assessment in that language.

The Communication Centre for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a centre for ÍTM and works for the sign language community in Iceland. We want to hire an employee with creative thinking, someone who has a sincere interest in ÍTM and ambition for teaching the language. Further information about the job Salary is in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Sameyki. The Communication Center is a sign language-friendly workplace where emphasis is placed on Icelandic Sign Language in all internal and external work of the organization. We are looking for full-time sign language teachers (100% employment) within normal working hours, with a possibility of demand-related overtime in the evenings and on weekends. However, part-time work is also possible. It is desirable that applicants can start work as soon as possible.
