5th September 2024

Re-education courses in Portugal

In July, three sign language interpreters who work at the Communication Centre for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired attended a retraining course in Portugal. The interpreters who attended the course were Iðunn Ása Óladóttir, Sandra Helgadóttir and Steinunn Birna Jónsdóttir. The course was called,, Training for Sign Language Interpreters: Interpreting from and to English”. The course was held in Coimbra and was led by Mayu de Witt. Maya is an interpreter teacher and researcher with extensive experience in the field of sign language interpretation.

The interpreters were trained to interpret from Icelandic sign language to English, as a third language, and then from English to Icelandic sign language. The interpreters who attended the course found it very useful and they received good education to continue their professional development at home.
