The Communication Centre for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Birthday and New Year’s greetings

31st December 2025

The Communication Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was founded on New Year's Eve 1990 and is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

The Communication Centre originally fell under the Ministry of Education, then the Ministry of Education and Culture and now the Ministry of Culture, but the institution is the centre for Icelandic Sign Language, and language and culture are inextricably linked.
From the beginning, the Communication Centre has provided sign language interpretation, sign language teaching, sign language research, sign language consultancy and various other sign language services in good cooperation with the sign language community in Iceland.
With thanks for the cooperation over the past 35 years and looking forward to continued cooperation in the future, we say: Happy New Year and congratulations on the 35th anniversary of the Communication Centre.
