The Friends of the National Archives Society
In connection with the 140th anniversary of the National Archives of Iceland on April 3rd 2022, the The Friends of the National Archives Society was established.
The purpose of the society is to foster connections between the public and the archive, as well as to enhance understanding of the importance of preserving historical documents related to governance, administration, civil rights, and the history of the Icelandic nation.
The main initiatives undertaken by the society include collecting private archival materials, engaging with the public and young people, and serving as a platform for volunteer work in support of the archive. Additionally, the society aims to organize informative events and educational programs related to archival matters.
The Friends of the National Archives Society is open to everyone, and registration can be done through the form below.
The societies board of directors is led by Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir, with other members including Guðjón Friðriksson, Mörður Árnason, Sigrún Magnúsdóttir, and Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir. The alternate board members are Jóhanna Gunnlaugsdóttir and Ólöf Garðarsdóttir
