13th May 2026

Digital Submission and Preservation of Electronic Records – Lessons Learned, Challenges, and the Way Forward.

The National Archives of Iceland’s Annual Spring Conference will take place on Wednesday, June 3, at the Berjaya Reykjavik Natura Hotel. The theme of this year’s conference is: “Digital Submission and Preservation of Electronic Records – Lessons Learned, Challenges, and the Way Forward.

The conference will be held from 10:00 to 13:00 and will also be live-streamed.

Registration is now open, and information on the program and registration can be found here.

A special early-bird registration fee will be available until May 22.

In recent years, digital submissions have increased significantly in Iceland, alongside growing digitization and greater awareness among obligated entities of electronic records management, the value of good records governance, and the importance of transferring digital records. From the outset, Iceland’s methodology for digital submission has been influenced by the practices of the Danish National Archives, which is a global leader in the long-term preservation of electronic records.

This year’s conference will be dedicated to this ongoing development, providing an opportunity to explore the lessons learned in both countries, the challenges ahead, and the way forward.
