The National Archives of Iceland receives funding for costs of work in rural areas
4th December 2024
The Icelandic Regional Development Agency grants for non-local work in rural areas and recently the National Archives of Iceland received a grant for costs for the facilities of a archivist in Neskaupstaður.
The website of the Icelandic Regional Development Agency states: “The agreements are made on the basis of action B.7. on non-local work in the Strategic Regional Plan for 2022-2036. The objective of the project is to try to promote freedom of residence through increased employment opportunities and increased diversity of employment in rural areas. The action is also intended to increase the proportion of state-funded permanent positions in rural areas and thus strengthen residence in the countryside.”
The work in question is partly in the information service of the museum and partly in the collection of data for the Committee on the Occupation of the Settlement Areas for National Affairs. The work is done in the office cluster Múlinn cooperative house in Neskaupstaður. Múlinn is operated by the Cooperative of the Fishermen in Neskaupstaður (SÚN) and houses many companies, both state-owned and privately owned.
Some of the tasks of the National Archives are of a nature that can be non-local and the museum is willing to define the advertised work in a way that is appropriate.
