The Icelandic Chess Federation delivers its data to the National Archives for preservation

10th June 2025

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Icelandic Chess Federation, it has been decided to submit the older chess data of the chess Federation to the National Archives of Iceland for preservation.

These include meeting minutes, annual reports, original copies of chess writing journals from the Duel of the Century from 1972, as well as other documents. After the data has been registered, it will be accessible in the museum for those who want to view it, but some of the data will also be scanned and made available online.

Gunnar Björnsson, President of the Icelandic Chess Federation, said: “We are extremely pleased to put these documents in the safe hands of the National Archives. This will ensure the security of the data and access to it will be much better than it has been.” Njörður Sigurðsson, deputy director general, welcomed the delivery and said that the museum would take on the task of preserving these important documents and making it accessible to users.
