Survey on the National Archives’ Web Dissemination
2nd March 2026
Preparatory work is currently underway for the development of a new dissemination website for the National Archives of Iceland. An important part of this preparation is gathering user feedback, and a short online survey has been created for this purpose.

The goal of the new dissemination website is to build a single web portal that connects all dissemination of the National Archives’ collections and related research, and presents it in various ways as appropriate, including through a map viewer.
The site will feature a search engine and a web viewer that connects to the archival catalog and the digital reproductions of the collections, enabling interactive links between information about people and places across the centuries.
User feedback is crucial in order to create a website that best serves its users. With this short survey, we hope to gain insight into users’ attitudes towards the current dissemination websites of the National Archives, which include heimildir.is, skjalaskra.skjalasafn.is, and other sites that publish material from the National Archives.
We also ask about the main website of the National Archives at skjalasafn.is, which is part of the government web portal at island.is. We would be grateful to everyone who takes a few minutes to respond to the survey; it takes about 3–5 minutes to complete. The survey is open until March 10, 2026.
