Staff cycled 1,852 kilometers
4th June 2024
The National Archives of Iceland was ranked 2nd among 69 companies and institutions participating in the “Cycle to work” campaign, which took place from 8-28 May 2024.
“Cycling to work” is a fun public health project that the Icelandic Olympic and Sports Association has been running since 2003. It encourages employees to use healthy and environmentally friendly transportation methods to and from work. The project lasts for three weeks in May and the staff of the National Archives participated in the project with the team of Archivists.
The team members had great fun, in the end the participants had travelled 1,852 km of their own accord. There were 24 members on the team, which is more than half of the total staff, so the team members cycled and walked each on average nine days during the period. In archives, it is common to refer to kilometres of shelves, but in recent weeks bike-kilometres have been higher in the minds of staff!
Cycling to work has inspired many staff members to pull out their bikes and push the pedals, as outdoor exercise is an excellent start to the day.
