The Office of Operations will be a supporting unit that operates across other units and a new core unit, the Office of Communication and Research, has been established. Ólafur Arnar Sveinsson will lead the new unit and will be a member of the Directorate of the Icelandic National Archives, along with the National Archivist and other directors.

The strengthening of the operational office will continue as a supporting area for the entire collection. The focus will be on operations, finance, human resources and quality assuarance, housing, security and preservation. This will continue the focus on strengthening this area of the collection.

The change will transfer staff who were previously under the management of the Director of Operations or directly under the National Archivist, and who have been involved in public land research, private archives and research, to the new Office of Communication and Research. In addition, the staff in the communications sector who have been part of the infrastructure project will also be transferred to this office. The change will therefore merge the staff who have been involved in research, education and communication into one office which will undoubtedly strengthen the core activities of the museum.
