Today, the new website of the National Archives of Iceland is opened on the government’s website, Ísland.is. The URL to the new website is the same as before,
The new website is the main website of the National Archives with all general information about the National Archives, its activities and services. It also contains all rules, general instructions and advice on archiving and document management, courses and other things related to the role of the National Archives as an administrative agency with a service role to the public.
The aim of this change is to increase digital services, improve access to information and increase security in digital communications. The government’s digital journey aims to bring all public institutions to Iceland.is.
Special emphasis is placed on the simple and accessible provision of information and education, whether using a computer or phone to browse the web. One innovation in services is, for example, customised forms of inquiry on individual policy areas, for example, if information is sought on a career, property, paternity or police matters.
The next major step in the development of the National Archives’ web-based media will be to combine all dissemination and research on museum advantages and digital access to the nation’s documents and data that the institution keeps on a new media website that will be connected to the museum’s new registration system. Much of this material is now available on the website “Digital Resources from the National Archives of Iceland” on the site heimildir.is. Furthermore, the museum’s archives are also still available on the site skjalaskrar.skjalasafn.is.
