The visits form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among Iceland’s public archives. They provide an opportunity to reinforce relationships between archival institutions while discussing matters of mutual interest and offering advice on a variety of archival and records management issues.

During the visits, discussions focused on several topics, including the transfer of records from public bodies following municipal mergers, the arrangement and cataloguing of paper archives, the preservation of digital records, the acquisition and description of private archival collections within the regions, and the preservation and dissemination of photographic collections.

The service area of the Borgarfjörður Regional Archives comprises the municipalities of Borgarbyggð and Hvalfjarðarsveit, both of which are required to transfer their records to the archive. The East Húnavatnssýsla Regional Archives serves Húnabyggð and the Municipality of Skagaströnd, which likewise transfer their archival records to the institution.

At the Borgarfjörður Regional Archives, meetings were held with Þórný Hlynsdóttir, Regional Archivist, Elín Sigurborg Harðardóttir, Collections Officer, and Þórunn Kjartansdóttir, Director of the Borgarfjörður Museum Centre.At the East Húnavatnssýsla Regional Archives, meetings were held with Maríanna Þorgrímsdóttir, Archives Officer, and Katharina Schneider, Director of the Regional Library and the East Húnavatnssýsla Regional Archives. Svala Runólfsdóttir, former Regional Archivist, also stopped by to greet the visitors.
