The Memorandum of Understanding expresses the parties’ intention to strengthen professional ties and cooperation between the two institutions. Areas of collaboration include the exchange of copies of archival records preserved in the archives of the two countries that relate to their respective histories, the organisation of staff training and professional exchange programmes, and cooperation on exhibitions, publishing projects, and scientific and professional conferences. The agreement places particular emphasis on the importance of public access to archival information and the preservation of shared historical and cultural heritage.
The Memorandum is valid for five years and will be automatically renewed for successive five-year periods unless otherwise decided by the parties. Through this agreement, a foundation is established for strengthened international cooperation in the archival field and for new opportunities in the research, preservation, and dissemination of historical records for the benefit of both the scholarly community and the public in the two countries.
