Jóladagatal Þjóðskjalasafns 2024 - Jólaskjalatal

5th December 2024

Now before Christmas, the National Archives of Iceland is running a Christmas calendar, a sort of Christmas calendar, where samples from the collection are presented for information and fun during the holiday season. They refer to various items related to Christmas or certain events that have taken place in December.

The goal is not only to maintain the rich tradition of Christmas calendars but also to present to the public unique documents that reflect the events of the past and the diversity of the collection. Furthermore, the project is a part of making the collection accessible and shed light on both the preservation of certain data and the operation of the museum.

Among the documents already published are samples from the district courts and parliamentary books, comments from the State Film Board on films that are regularly viewed over Christmas, letters from an 18th century farmer to the National Committee and scripts of the national broadcaster’s lunch news.

The Christmas Calendar is displayed og the National Archives' Facebook page with brief presentation texts and pictures of the relevant documents.
