Specialist in Climate Accounting

Land and Forest Iceland is seeking a Specialist to join its Climate Accounting Team. Application ends October 20th 2025.

The institution plays a key role in the part of Iceland’s national greenhouse gas inventory that covers emissions and removals from land use (LULUCF).

This is an important and growing field, and we are looking for a new team member to strengthen our work in this area.

Land and Forest Iceland is a knowledge-based public institution whose main objective is to enhance the country’s vegetation and soil resources and promote sustainable land use, with an emphasis on nature-based solutions. The institution monitors these resources, contributes to scientific knowledge, and engages and educates the public and stakeholders.

The position is open to applicants regardless of location, as Land and Forest Iceland operates field offices in all regions of the country.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Work on the part of Iceland’s greenhouse gas inventory related to emissions and removals from land use.

  • Process and publish data related to land-use emissions.

  • Provide information, education, and outreach on land-use emissions.

  • Participate in development work related to Iceland’s climate accounting.

  • Other tasks within the scope of Land and Forest Iceland’s activities.

Qualifications and requirements

  • A university degree relevant to the position.

  • Knowledge of natural sciences and data analysis is essential.

  • Familiarity with Iceland’s greenhouse gas inventory is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in Excel is required.

  • Organised, proactive, independent, and accurate in work methods.

  • Excellent communication skills in both Icelandic and English, written and spoken.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes is required.

  • Good interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of a larger team.

Salaries are determined according to the current collective wage agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant trade union.
