New logo and website for Loftslagsvænn landbúnaður (Climate-friendly Agriculture)
21st March 2024
A new website for the project Loftslagsvænn landbúnaður (Climate-friendly Agriculture) was formally opened by Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir at the recent Icelandic Agriculture Conference. The website contains a wide range of educational material highlighting various climate issues faced by the agricultural sector. This new information source benefits both farmers and the public.
The 2024 Icelandic Agricultural Conference took place at Hotel Natura in Reykjavík on 14 and 15 March. The opening of the new website of the Climate-friendly Agriculture project is an important step, as it is the first Icelandic website dedicated to sustainability and climate issues in agriculture, as stated in a press release issued by The Icelandic Agricultural Advisory Center (RML).
The project has been running for over four years and during that journey, a great deal of knowledge has been gathered about climate and agriculture, both by the project’s employees and not the least from the farmers involved. Project manager of Climate-friendly agriculture is Berglind Ósk Alfreðsdóttir, an expert in sustainable food production and climate issues.
The new web provides for the first time a platform for Icelandic farmers to access educational material on climate-friendly farming practices, to study the actions already taken and see the actual results of the work of farmers involved in the project.
The press release also announces a new logo that has been created for the project by designer Ingibjörg Berglind Guðmundsdóttir at Cave canem. It is a graphical work involving the interaction between the Earth and agriculture. “Agriculture embraces the Earth and the interaction between the two must be honest and climate-friendly, so that the Earth can also embrace agriculture. For us to survive on Earth, agriculture is needed, and for the Earth to remain healthy, agriculture must treat its resources well,” as put in the description of the logo.
In the joint collaboration of RML and Land and Forest Iceland with Ingibjörg Berglind, twelve educational brochures have been produced giving an overview of the sources of greenhouse gases in agriculture and ways to reduce them.
The primary goal of the new website and brochures is to make information on climate issues of agriculture more accessible to both farmers and the public. A beautifully illustrated design of the educational material makes it easier for people to take in its content.
On a map of Iceland provided on the website, users can learn about the diverse farming activities of those involved in the Climate-friendly Agriculture project. Climate issues being a common challenge for agriculture, methods applied in the projects are free to be adopted by every farmer. The new website seeks to share the knowledge that has been generated in the project, as well as the results that have been achieved by the active farmers.
