Award recognising excellence in video production on forests and forestry
22nd March 2025
The 2025 Forestry Encouragement Award ceremony, held at Kvikan, Grindvík's cultural center, on March 21st, International Day of Forests, recognized Pálmar Örn Guðmundsson, chairman of the Grindavík Forestry Association, for his dynamic contributions to forestry promotion via video production.

The annual Forestry Incentive Award recognises an individual, group, company, association, or institution for outstanding contributions to Icelandic forestry. The award encourages continued dedication to forestry and highlights exemplary work nationwide. This year marks the second presentation of the award. Following a January nomination period yielding twenty submissions, a jury selected three finalists for public online voting. Pálmar Örn Guðmundsson, Chair of the Grindavík Forestry Association, received the most votes and is this year's recipient.
Ms. Ásrún Kristinsdóttir, President of the Grindavík Municipal Council, delivered opening remarks at the Kvikan ceremony, welcoming attendees and providing a brief overview of the town's current situation. Following this, Mr. Hjörtur Bergmann Jónsson, Chairman of the Farmers' Association Forestry Department, presented the award to Mr. Pálmar. The award comprised two handcrafted Icelandic birch bowls, created by Mr. Trausti Tryggvason, former Chairman of the Stykkishólmur Forestry Association.
Mr. Pálmar has independently undertaken significant pro bono promotional work for Icelandic forestry through his YouTube channel, Skógurinn. His content comprehensively covers various forestry aspects, including individual tree species, forests, and forestry operations such as plantations. Despite the recent Reykjanes Peninsula fires damaging his hometown and the Grindavík Forestry Association's forests, Mr. Pálmar has remained dedicated to his work, independently producing all video content. His genuine and enthusiastic passion for forests and nature captivates viewers, and his commendable commitment to providing English subtitles significantly broadens the reach and accessibility of his work.
The Forestry Incentive Award is jointly presented by the Icelandic Forestry Association, Land and Forest Iceland, and the Icelandic Farmers' Association (forestry sector). The photo of Pálmar Örn was taken by Elisabeth Bernard.
