As of 1 January 2026, the organisational structure of Land and Forest Iceland is divided into three core departments and three support departments.

Provision of expert consultation and strategic planning services for sustainable land use.
Oversight of incentive and support initiatives pertaining to sustainable land management.
Execution of comprehensive monitoring and follow-up procedures.
Implementation of established quality criteria, standards, rules, and regulations within the domain of sustainable land use.
Conducting research and development initiatives focused on sustainable land use methodologies.
Overseeing monitoring projects conducted by Land and Forest Iceland.
Supervising the land use component within the Icelandic climate accounts (LULUCF).
Evaluating the performance of projects pertaining to sustainable land use.
Developing certification systems for sustainable land use practices.
Managing the operations of research facilities and laboratories.
Oversight and management of national forests, land reclamation initiatives, and other state-owned properties. - Development and maintenance of infrastructure, outdoor recreational facilities, tourist attractions, educational pathways, and hiking trails. - Management of leasing, calls for tenders, and advertising processes for land assets. - Establishment and maintenance of landmarks, fencing, and demarcation for managed territories.
Collaboration on projects with LOGS and partners focused on sustainable land use.
Provision of seeds, seedlings, and fertilisers.
Supervision of the operation, maintenance, and utilisation of machinery and equipment.
The projects undertaken by the Agency are cross-sectoral and a strong emphasis is placed on ensuring co-ordination and cooperation between sectors as appropriate for success.
