Patient insurance - advertisement for interested specialist doctors

7th May 2026

Iceland Health requests discussions with interested specialist physicians who wish to take advice in contracting with the institution's professional team on applications for compensation payments for incidents in healthcare (patient insurance).

We are especially looking for specialists in obstetrics, gynaecology, psychiatry and ophthalmology, but we encourage interested specialists in all specialties to send us an application.

The task is twofold, on the one hand to review medical data regarding individuals' applications for benefits and on the other hand to advise Iceland Health on compensation entitlement according to the Patient Insurance Act. The main conditions of the right to compensation are that personal injury can be traced to the fact that medical treatment has not been conducted as well as possible or that the individual has suffered serious and rare complications of treatment. This is not a traditional assessment work, but only a review of medical documents from applicants and therapists and the writing of an expert opinion based on that review.

We are looking for specialist doctors who have some work experience but are also still in clinical work. However, it is possible to enter into agreements with specialists who have recently retired from clinical practice. It is not a requirement that the person in question works in Iceland. The scope of work is by further agreement and offers flexibility.

Interested parties should send a brief overview of their career along with specialist recognition, if it is not available from the Iceland Health, to innkaup@sjukra.is email address before May 30, 2026. Health insurance reserves the right to choose from the group that expresses interest, as needed.
