Present the risk management of Iceland Health at the EHFCN forum
6th March 2026
Cooperation on the international stage strengthened

The Risk Manager of Iceland Health, Katrín Loftsdóttir, participated today in a webinar hosted by EHFCN (European Healthcare Fraud & Corruption Network), where she reviewed how the institution has developed systematic risk management in its operations. The presentation addressed how operational challenges served as a catalyst for strengthening risk management, safety, and quality culture within Iceland Health. Furthermore, it outlined how a structured analysis of weaknesses in contracts, projects, procedures, and information systems has led to improvements in operational practices.
Iceland Health is implementing a comprehensive risk management framework based on regular risk assessments, mitigation measures, follow-up, and regular reporting. Among the improvements that have already been implemented are a systematic assessment of vulnerabilities identified in audits by the National Audit Office, a digital reporting system, the implementation of ISO 27001, and enhanced data-driven monitoring in addition to Iceland Health participation in EHFCN.
The presentation received a positive response and created a platform for sharing experience in building risk management in the healthcare system. Healthcare systems around the world are facing increased fraud risk, making it important to develop robust responses, learn from the experiences of other countries, and strengthen international cooperation.
Iceland Health will continue to emphasize strengthening risk management and data-driven monitoring to ensure reliable and responsible handling of public funds.
