Please note that the collection of patient insurance premiums has begun. Those who have yet to complete their registration for patient insurance in the data portal (Gagnagátt) are advised to do so immediately. Otherwise, the premium will be collected in accordance with full-time employment and the number of employees of the operator may be estimated.

According to the new Act on Patient Insurance No. 47/2024, the patient insurance of self-employed healthcare professionals is transferred from insurance companies to the Iceland Health. The change applies to damages that occur on or after 1 January 2025.

In this appendix, you will find four letters with instructions that have been sent to self-employed healthcare professionals electronically. The first letter was published on 21 November 2024, the second on 17 December 2024, 10. January 2025 and the fourth on 3. April 2025. It is requested that self-employed healthcare professionals familiarize themselves with both letters.

The amount of the premium for self-employed healthcare professionals has been determined by a regulation of the Minister of Health.
