Iceland Health concludes contract award for public health-related operations
8th November 2024
Iceland Health has completed the contract award for public health related actions for 2024. The contracts are valid until the end of the year, while long-term contracts are being worked on in parallel.
Public health interventions are not part of interventions in multiple illnesses or in the emergency, but are a one-off action that can return the person to health and social activity.
The agreements are in line with the agreed health policy for 2030 and are part of the process of ensuring equal and timely access to healthcare.
These are measures that have a major impact on the quality of life of people. The goal that has been worked towards is to ensure equal and timely access for patients to important healthcare services, regardless of economic status.
Willum Þór, the Minister of Health, pointed out that the agreements on public health-related measures have been successful and have contributed to a more efficient use of the entire healthcare system and the human resources that are used there.
In 2024, a total of 710 joint replacement surgery on both the knee and hip, 190 abdominal surgery due to endothetriosis, 138 back surgery due to cartilage thrombosis and thigh tunnel constriction, and up to 840 eye mineralization surgery were agreed upon. The parties to the agreements of Icelandic Health Insurance for the operations are Stoðkerfi ehf., Klíníkin ehf., Cosan ehf. and Lentis ehf.
“We are extremely pleased that we have been able to conclude these agreements. This is extremely important for people who have been on the waiting list and waiting for these measures.
says Sigurður Helgi Helgason, CEO of Iceland Health.
Long-term contracts in preparation
Alongside the purchase of public health-related measures by Iceland Health for 2024, such long-term agreements have been worked on to ensure both equality in access and continuity of services. It is proposed that these agreements will replace the current agreements at the end of the year and also include breast reduction measures and metabolic measures in addition to the measures already agreed upon. The aim is for agreements for three years to ensure predictability and continuity of services.
