Teddy Bear Hospital in Akureyri
25th October 2023
The Teddy Bear Hospital will be open for injured or sick teddy bears on Saturday October 28th. Teddy bears and their owners are welcome at the HSN Akureyri Health Care Center, where medical students receive them.
The popular Teddy Bear hospital will be back in Akureyri on Saturday October 28th!
All children, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to bring sick or injured teddy bears to the 5th floor of the HSN Akureyri health care center between 10 and 16.
The purpose of the Teddy Bear Hospital is on one hand to help children with their fears for being treated by medical staff and on the other hand to give medical students a chance to practice communication with children.
The visit is carried out so that each child brings his or her own teddy bear. It is a good idea that parents or guardians who come along have talked to the children before the visit about what is wrong with the bear, whether it has, for example, a sore throat, stomach or a broken leg. Once at the primary healthcare centre, the child is allowed to check in the teddy bear and after that the doctor arrives and directs the child to the clinic where the doctor examines the bear and provides him/her with the care he/she needs.
The Teddy Bear hospital is run by medical students.
