A course, Help for anxious children in Neskaupstaður

27th September 2024

The health care center in Neskaupsstaður will offer a course for parents of 5 - 12 year old children who have anxiety. The aim of the course is to teach parents about cognitive behavioral therapy and to encourage parents to use the methods with their child to work on anxiety, strengthen courage and self-confidence. Common anxiety symptoms that children show are fear of sleeping alone, walking alone outside, fear of dogs or fear of something happening to their parents. The course starts on Thursday 17.10.24 at 13:00 - 15:00 in the hall on the 3rd floor of the Hospital in Neskaupsstaður.

The course consists of 5 hours over a 7 week period, first 4 hours, then a 2 week break, i.e. Thursdays 14 and 21 October and then the 5th and last time 28.11.24, as well as follow-up interviews that will take place in January 2025.

All the courses are based on the book “Help for anxious children” and are presented with homework for parents, which includes a lot of reading and therefore it is important that parents commit to this treatment during the treatment period and purchase the book in advance, which is available in most online stores.
