Planning officers work for municipalities and planning consultants have the authority to develop plans.

Planning officer

• A specialised employee of a municipality who handles projects in the field of planning.

• Works with municipal planning committees.

• Oversees planning on behalf of the municipality.

• Supervises that construction is in accordance with the plan and permits issued.

A planning officer may also be the municipal building officer. Two or more municipalities may appoint a joint planning officer.

Planning consultant

• Are authorised by the HMS to work on the development of plans.

To be registered on the list, one must meet the requirements for education and work experience specified in more detail in Article 7 of the Planning Act.
