The Planning Agency maintains a list of planning consultants, who are authorized to work on planning. Certain conditions for education and/or work experience must be met to carry out the preparation of planning plans, which are specified in Article 7 of the Planning Act.

A planning consultant must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Be a planning specialist with the authorization of the Minister.

  • Be an architect, civil engineer, landscape architect, technical engineer or engineer authorised by the Minister and meet one of the following conditions:

    • Have specialized training in the field of planning.

    • Worked in the field of planning for at least two years

The organisation shall follow the following procedures for the evaluation of applications for inclusion in the list of approved planning consultants (see Article 7(2) to (5)):

Those parties that meet the abovementioned conditions may request the inclusion of them in the list of the Agency of the Directorate of Management, of those who are authorized to carry out the drawing up of the planning plans.

Uapplication

An application with the following accompanying documents must be submitted to the Icelandic National Planning Agency.

  • Confirmation of the Minister's authorization for a professional title, No. 8/1996 on the approval of several professional titles in the technical and design fields.

If applying for specialisation:

  • In education: a confirmed overview of the education with course descriptions.

  • On the job: a confirmed summary of the work experience and the main organisational tasks, along with a description of the applicant's role in those tasks.
