30th April 2026
All operations of the Speech and Hearing Center have been transferred to Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins, starting from May 1, 2026.

Services provided by the Hearing and Speech Center will remain unchanged following the transfer to Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins (HH).
Staff will continue to serve clients from across the country.
Operations will remain in the same location, at Hraunbær 115 in Árbær.
Staff will continue to maintain a presence in Akureyri and Sauðárkrókur.
Visits to health centers in rural areas will continue to be offered.
With the transfer, all staff of the center will move to HH. They will retain their salaries and employment rights after the change.
Welcoming new colleagues
“At this milestone, we warmly welcome our new colleagues to Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins. There are many opportunities in bringing this service into our organization, and we intend to continue providing first-class care,” says Sigríður Dóra Magnúsdóttir, Director General of HH.
“The staff of the Hearing and Speech Center have extensive knowledge and experience in serving their clients, and we fully trust them to carry out their work and continue shaping the service. We at HH will do our part to support the staff in their roles and to further strengthen the operations of the new unit,” says Sigríður Dóra.
Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins operates several other nationwide services, such as four mental health teams, the Cancer Screening Coordination Center, and the Immigrant Health Screening service. The operation of the Speech and Hearing Center therefore fits well within the organization’s structure.
