Changes to fees for mental health team services
25th August 2026
There will be changes to fees for services provided by the mental health teams of Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins starting 1 September. From that date, an arrival fee will be charged, and fees will also apply to medical tests, courses and certificates, in the same way as at health centers.

These changes apply to the following mental health teams:
ADHD Mental Health Team
Mental Health Team East
Mental Health Team South
Mental Health Team West
Brain Stimulation Center
These teams provide services exclusively to adults.
Arrival fee
A standard arrival fee will be charged for each visit to these teams. The fee will be the same as the fee charged for visits to a health center.
The fee will be ISK 1,000 per visit.
Older adults, people with disabilities, and people receiving rehabilitation pension are exempt and will therefore not pay the arrival fee.
A separate service fee will continue to be charged for adult ADHD assessments. The fee is currently ISK 29,223 and is charged at the beginning of the assessment process.
Fees for medical tests
A fee will be charged for medical tests. The fee will be the same as at health centers.
The standard fee is ISK 3,716.
Older adults, people with disabilities, and people receiving rehabilitation pension pay ISK 2,477.
Fees for courses
A fee will be charged for participation in courses offered by the mental health teams. The cost will be the same as for other courses offered by Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins.
Fees are based on the number of sessions:
1 session – ISK 5,377
2–3 sessions – ISK 10,754
4–6 sessions – ISK 17,206
7–10 sessions – ISK 23,658
Older adults, people with disabilities, and people receiving rehabilitation pension pay the same fee as other participants.
No arrival fee is charged for attending a course.
Fees for certificates
A fee will be charged for certificates issued by the mental health teams. The fee will be the same as at health centers. The amount varies depending on the type of certificate. Information about the cost of individual certificates can be found in the price list.
Invoices sent to online banks
Fees for mental health team services will be collected by sending an invoice to clients through their online bank. Those who do not have access to online banking can have an invoice sent to their home by mail. The ADHD service fee can still be paid by credit card.
All information about the cost of services provided by Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins can be found in the price list.
The changes to fees for mental health team services are being introduced following a new regulation from the Ministry of Health on patient cost-sharing for healthcare services. The regulation removed the previous exemption from fees that had applied to mental health teams.
