The Capital Area Children’s Prosperity Council is organizing a Wellbeing Week from March 9 to March 13. The council consists of all municipalities in the capital area, together with Heilsugæsla höfuðborgarsvæðisins, The Capital Area Police Department, upper secondary schools, and sports clubs.
The aim of the week is to highlight the importance of coordinated efforts among everyone who works with children and young people, and to draw attention to the positive developments that have taken place following the implementation of the children’s prosperity legislation. The legislation introduced a new approach that places the child at the center and ensures that services and support for children are integrated across systems.
Varied activities
A wide range of activities will take place during Wellbeing Week, including:
In Reykjavík there will be workshops for wellbeing liaisons and presentations on the core pillars of children’s prosperity through dialogue, videos, and educational materials. Special emphasis will also be placed on multicultural wellbeing and on improving outreach to marginalized groups.
In Kópavogur informational meetings on children’s prosperity will be offered for guardians and staff who work with children in the municipality. School liaisons will also raise awareness among children, guardians, and colleagues about children’s prosperity through various activities.
In Hafnarfjörður the focus will be on presenting the municipality’s support services and children’s prosperity liaisons. The municipality has placed particular emphasis on these liaisons during the current school year and has worked to strengthen their role. Schools will host a range of presentations introducing students, parents, and staff to the role of the children’s prosperity liaison. The municipality has also produced posters and a brochure that will be displayed and distributed.
In Garðabær a varied program will be offered for municipal staff, parents, and children. A workshop will be held with children’s prosperity liaisons and case managers, and all staff who work with children will be offered online training and a refresher on the children’s prosperity legislation. Parents will also be invited to a presentation on the legislation and the integration of services. Preschools and compulsory schools will highlight children’s prosperity in various ways and provide educational activities for students, parents, and staff. In many places, activities will be designed from the children’s perspective—for example by showing BOFS educational videos and using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to explain what wellbeing means in everyday life.
In Mosfellsbær liaisons in all schools will place special emphasis on introducing the procedures to colleagues in small groups, strengthening shared responsibility within the school community.
In Seltjarnarnes the focus will be on education and awareness-raising within the municipality’s internal work, and specialized courses will be offered through child protection services.
