Poor coverage - What you can do

A reliable network connection is important in daily life. In Iceland, connection quality can be poor due to:

  • location

  • terrain

  • building materials

This can affect you whether you are:

  • at home

  • at work

  • at a summer house

However, there are solutions that can improve your connection and make communication more reliable.

Interference – when the issue is not on your side

If you experience unusual delays, frequent call drops or the connection suddenly disappears, there may be interference nearby.

Examples of interference

  • illegal foreign radio transmitters

  • misconfigured transmission equipment

  • radio equipment that does not meet regulatory requirements

  • old or faulty microwave antennas

The Electronic Communications Office investigates such issues and operates a dedicated interference detection service.
