Upper Secondary School Application Portal

Through the Upper Secondary School Application Portal, individuals – and, where applicable, the legal guardians of underage applicants – can apply for admission to upper secondary schools in Iceland.

The purpose of the portal is to receive applications for upper secondary education, process them, and forward the information to the external learning management systems of each school, which then handle student enrolment and administration.

Applicants, or their legal guardians in the case of underage applicants, sign in using electronic ID via the Ísland.is portal. There, they complete an online application form to apply for admission to the school of their choice. Applicants or guardians then enter the required information into the application form, such as personal details, emergency contact information, school preferences, and any additional information if relevant. All communication between applicants or guardians takes place through the application system of Digital Iceland and “My Pages” (Mínar síður), and results are delivered to the official digital mailbox at Ísland.is.

Staff members of upper secondary schools process applications based on the information submitted by applicants. Students are allocated to schools and study programmes according to the admission criteria set by each school, taking into account the information provided and the school’s available capacity. Once the allocation is complete, placement is confirmed based on applicants’ preferences (first, second, and, if applicable, third choice) and the schools’ admission criteria. The results are then transferred to the schools’ learning management systems, and applicants receive the outcome in their digital mailbox.

Terms of Use

  • •Each school appoints one system administrator who is responsible for managing access to the portal. The administrator is authorised to create and deactivate user accounts and must ensure that access is removed when a staff member leaves or no longer requires access for work purposes.

  • Access to the portal is managed based on the national ID number of each individual. The administrator registers authorised users on behalf of the school and maintains the list of active users.

  • Users must sign in with electronic ID each time they access the portal.

  • Upon signing in, users gain access only to applications relevant to their work within the upper secondary school they are employed at.

  • User accounts are personal and non-transferable. Sharing, lending, or granting others access to one’s account is strictly prohibited.

  • Users are responsible for preventing unauthorised access to the system while logged in, for example by locking their workstation or signing out when leaving the computer unattended.

  • If a user has access that is no longer required for their role, they must notify the school’s system administrator to update permissions.

  • Users must ensure the protection of personal data and respect data privacy when handling information obtained through the portal. Data shall only be used for its intended purpose, and processing shall be kept to the minimum necessary.

  • Any other use of the system or its data is strictly prohibited.
