This is a pilot project in which a selected group of teachers will get access to AI tools to explore whether how they can save time and make lesson planning and teaching easier. The project runs from October 2025 to April 2026.

No. This is only a pilot project intended to evaluate the potential impact before any decision is made about whether, and how, such tools should be used in the future.

The purpose is to see how these tools can be useful in teachers’ everyday work and to learn together. Our goal is to listen to teacher's experiences, support them with access to best-in-class tools and materials, and learn what works and what doesn’t.

AI has been shown to significantly benefit teachers in a variety of contexts, but we want to validate specifically how this can work for Icelandic teachers in the Icelandic context. These tools may help you save time, generate ideas, and even reduce workload. You can use them as much or as little as you wish.

No. All teachers are encouraged to take part. The use of artificial intelligence can benefit teachers at all levels and across all subjects.

No. There is no requirement to attend courses or training – although such opportunities will be available for those who are interested, as this is an excellent opportunity for professional development. You can use the tools whenever and however they suit you. We only ask that you complete a short survey every few weeks to share how the tools are working for you.

Teachers will receive access to either Claude.edu from Anthropic or Gemini within Google Classroom. Each teacher will have access to only one of the tools, allowing for comparison of different approaches and user experiences.

No. ChatGPT from OpenAI is not part of this project, although many teachers have previously explored it on their own.

The main difference is that Claude and Gemini are used in a secure, managed environment under the supervision of MMS, where teachers’ experiences and feedback are an important part of the project. Using ChatGPT would be personal use outside the project.

• Security and privacy: Claude and Gemini are configured so that no content leaves the country and no information is used to train the models. ChatGPT, on the other hand, automatically collects data unless this is manually disabled.

• Management and support: MMS provides access, guidance, and technical support. ChatGPT users receive no formal support or supervision.

• Impact: By using Claude or Gemini as part of the project, you are contributing to a pilot that will inform national policy on the use of technology in Icelandic education. Personal use of ChatGPT has no such impact on MMS decisions or policy development.

This project is not just about using new tools — it is about ensuring that the voices of teachers and school professionals help determine whether, and how, such tools should become part of education in the future.

No. MMS only receives statistical information (such as the number of queries, etc.) and voluntary responses from surveys conducted by Prósent.

You are, as a professional. You are expected to review all material you use or create with the help of artificial intelligence and ensure that it aligns with school policies, professional standards, and the Icelandic education policy.

No. Each teacher has their own workspace, and data are not shared between users.

Claude and Gemini are configured under strict GDPR compliant privacy agreements to ensure no user or school data is retained or used to train the models

It means that the selected tools must be able to:

• write and read Icelandic fluently,

• produce content appropriate to students’ age, maturity, and educational values, and

• comply with data protection regulations (GDPR).

It does not mean that the tools have built-in knowledge of Icelandic curricula or teaching materials.

These tools have no built-in knowledge of the Icelandic school system or teaching materials, but can access anything that is publicly available online, such as the national curriculum. You will need to provide any other relevant content yourself if you want the responses to be based on it
