Cancellations are the first part of electronic registrations

5th February 2021

Cancellations are the first process that was developed in Electronic registration, but cancellations have the role of cancelling rights from registration books.

Cancellations are the first process that was developed in Electronic registration, but cancellations have the role of cancelling rights from registration books.

About the project

Once a loan has been paid, the creditor can send in the registration number and cancel the loan electronically. The confirmation of the borrower was sent to Iceland.is. The claimant can obtain confirmation through a web service. Claimants can search for a registration number by entering a fixed number on the mortgage.

The challenge was for example in the development of web services versus older systems used in tree description, improvements in the business environment and implementation of new databases have ensured better service.

The introduction of web services needs development by users, i.e. financial undertakings need to connect to web services, directly link to credit systems and/or develop interfaces to send in electronic cancellations.

About 40% of documents with the  District Commissioners are cancellations, with this change, manual work by financial undertakings and district commissioners is reduced, and borrowers receive confirmation of cancellations from Ísland.is instead of receiving postal service.
