About Court on Reopening of cases

The Court of Restitution is a special court that decides whether to allow the reopening of cases that have been adjudicated in the District Court, the National Court or the Supreme Court, cf. Chapter IX of the Law on Courts no. 50/2016. The provisions of the Law on the Treatment of Civil Cases no. 91/1991, in particular Chapters XXVIII and XXIX, and the Law on the Treatment of Criminal Cases no. 88/2008, in particular Chapters XXXIV and XXXV, apply to the reopening of cases. The Court of Restitution shall start with the 1st of December 2020 to process requests for the reopening of cases that have not been dealt with by a reopening committee before that date, cf. Chapter IX of the Law on Courts no. 50/2016 with subsequent amendments.

The Court of Restitution is located at the District Court at Suðurlandsbraut 14, 108 Reykjavík.
