Preparing for the Total Solar Eclipse
On 12 August, a total solar eclipse will be visible from Iceland. Across much of western Iceland, people will be able to experience this unique natural phenomenon from close to home. However, many are also expected to travel to viewing locations around the country. It is important to plan and keep an eye on information and updates as the date approaches.
The Icelandic Transport Authority encourages everyone to prepare their journeys carefully and exercise caution when travelling.
The Icelandic Transport Authority’s eclipse information page provides information on regulations relating to drone operations, passenger transport by sea, and commercial passenger flights. The page will be updated as necessary in the lead-up to the eclipse.
The Icelandic authorities have also launched a central information portal with practical information for the public, including guidance on transport, safety, and services related to the eclipse.
