New framework agreement, new projects

A new framework agreement for Digital Iceland recently came into effect, and to mark the occasion, Iceland's national software development team, our teams, were invited to a strategic event where the main goals, priorities, and upcoming projects were reviewed.

Daði Már Kristófersson, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, set the tone at the beginning of the meeting, reminding us how far we have come and why Digital Iceland matters. This was followed by presentations from the Digital Iceland team on the progress to date, the implementation of the agreement, data and overall architecture, and the core services that form the foundation of Island.is. Subsequently, workshops were held with different themes, where in-depth discussions took place and feedback was sought on what could be improved.

The tasks ahead are many and varied, and their purpose is always to improve public services through digital means. The main projects for the year were reviewed, which include, for example, the digitalization of many service processes, the use of artificial intelligence to improve services to the public, and the mapping of public sector data. In addition, My Pages on Island.is will become the new home for digital health information.

Simplifying people's lives and increasing the efficiency of the public sector by using standardized, secure, and leading technology is a marathon. We are fortunate to have access to over 120 specialists who ensure that we can run fast, further digitalise public services, reduce steps, save time, and provide better services to the public. These specialists, who form 10 web teams and 10 universal teams, come from 13 companies that together create all these digital solutions that generate this great benefit.

It is important for us to meet the people in the teams at the start of a new agreement, put faces to names, and together refine the working methods that have served us so well. There are diverse and large projects ahead that will have a direct impact on individuals, companies, and institutions.

“The power within our teams and their collaboration is immense when we strive for a common vision and all row in the same direction. We are extremely excited about the continued collaboration and have welcomed new members into our community, as there are many large projects ahead that will result in efficiency gains and even better services. Rapid changes in technology bring new challenges that we solve together, which should help us serve Icelandic society even better.” says Birna Íris Jónsdóttir, Managing Director of Digital Iceland
