Forest audit and climate accounting expert

Land and Forest Iceland seeks experienced professionals to contribute to the sustainable management and conservation of Iceland's green resources. Our focus lies on land reclamation, afforestation, and forest preservation, aiming to drive economic, environmental, and social benefits through responsible land use practices. Currently, we are recruiting a highly qualified individual to lead our forest audit team and oversee climate accounting for forest lands.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities

  • Account for greenhouse gas emissions and removals within natural forests, afforestation areas, and forest products.

  • Report on forestry and forest-related matters to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Forest Europe.

  • Conduct a national inventory of cultivated and natural forests.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in forestry or a related field with a focus on greenhouse gas dynamics in forests. A doctoral degree is highly desirable.

  • Expertise in general forestry, particularly in analysing and recording vegetation and land quality through statistical processing of extensive data sets.

  • Proven experience in management and teamwork, along with excellent communication skills.

  • Proficiency in English and Icelandic is advantageous
