Social Insurance Administration: Rehabilitation
What is a maintenance allowance? Is it the same as a special allowance for maintenance?
Yes, the maintenance allowance or special maintenance allowance is an additional payment to the disability and rehabilitation pension that is applied when pensioners have no or very low income from sources other than SIA. This maintenance allowance does not fall under the normal free income limit but has its own free income limit; the maintenance allowance is reduced by ISK 65 against each ISK of taxable income that is added whether it is wage, pension fund or capital gains.
