Rehabilitation is intended to promote a person who is unable to perform work on the labour market due to an accident or illness with the aim of regaining work competence or increasing employment. The conditions that need to be met to apply for rehabilitation are to be in active rehabilitation under the guidance of a healthcare professional, to have had legal residence in Iceland continuously for the last 12 months, as well as having fully utilized sick leave entitlements from the employer and the trade union's sickness fund.
