Social Insurance Administration: Old age pension
I am turning 67 years old, when will I receive a pension?
First, you need to start by applying to all pension funds and getting your application approved there. Once that's done, you can submit an application along with an income estimate to TR (Social Insurance Administration). Your pension gateway must accompany the application. The application is submitted through My Pages on island.is.
The pension gateway is an overview of all the funds you have contributed to throughout your life; you can find it on your personal pages at your pension fund. If you're not sure which funds you have rights with, you can go to lifeyrismal.is.
The general right to old-age pension is established from the age of 67, but you must have had legal residence in Iceland for at least 3 years between the ages of 16-67 to have any right to payments. The Social Insurance Administration pays pensions on the 1st day of each month.
Disability pension recipients do not need to apply for old-age pension as they are automatically transferred at the age of 67.
